Why engage.re? We wanted something short and simple, something which would capture the purpose of the platform – to engage with issues, projects, people, campaigns, life, community etc! The URL ending .re is like ‘re’ in ‘regarding’ – like in the subject line of an email. You can imagine the URLs: engage.re/sustainableenergy/london, or engage.re/organicfood/newyork or engage.re/climatechange/global etc. Most of the time you’ll even be able to guess the URL making it super-easy to get to the right place to take an action or learn about an issue.
It can also be useful with links to profiles of people and organisations, e.g. engage.re/KristinaDonauskyte or engage.re/UN
In short, we loved the engage.re idea because it fits well with the core added value of what we’re developing: that is the creation of a central place where everybody can engage on whatever is important to them in an improved way by working together!
But all these reasons dwarf in comparison to the fact that .re is the domain of the Reunion islands next to Madagascar. Apart from the islands being GORGEOUS, Reunion is what we’re all about; humanity working together more effectively 🙂
